Marcos Guntin

Principal

With a background in Philosophy and Classics, Marcos began to apply the translation,- writing, and text analysis skills he acquired in academia to the translation industry in 2005. As a freelancer, he established a global client base whose demand consistently exceeded his individual capacity. The team of colleagues he recruited to meet this demand were the basis of what eventually became Boethius.

Still engaged in academia, his work has been published by peer-reviewed outlets in three languages, both as a translator and author. His MA thesis discussed the legal framework of land ownership underpinning Kant’s Critique of Pure Reason, while his current research interests focus on human settlements in the light of Hans Blumenberg’s anthropology.

Translators

In a sector increasingly disposed towards easy come, easy go freelance workers, Marcos set out to form lasting relationships and build a cohesive team of specialists who could grow with the company. Thus, a number of translators have been with Boethius since its inception. These, and other language professionals, form an inner-circle of translators who, in addition to translating, develop the custom glossaries and style guides for every project. Working obsessively to get every word right, our senior translators also ensure consistency by proofreading the work of the wider network of translators on the roster, all of which are chosen following a rigorous selection process to ensure their aptitude, reliability and discretion. Further, in keeping with Boethius’ tradition, translators and staff typically have distinguished backgrounds in at least one other field – be it in academia, law, or as writers and artists – thereby enriching our collective knowledge and skills.

PM and QA Staff

It is the combined talents of Boethius’ full-time staff of Project- and Quality managers that forms the company’s backbone and allows it to stand out from the competition, as the translation itself is only part of what we do. Between the initial reception of files and the final delivery of a project, there occurs an intricate process of planning, organization and perfecting. Filling these senior roles involves years’ of apprenticeship at Boethius, even for experts who come to us with advanced degrees in the Editorial Arts and substantial professional experience already in hand.
